This course will provide you an opportunity to become acquainted with the philosophical doctrines of Zen Buddhism. Though Zen is popular among the meditation practitioners all over the world few are much aware of the philosophical doctrines contained in this Eastern wisdom. While Indian scholars relegate its status to one of the branches of Indian Buddhism, Chinese and Japanese scholars regard it as an offshoot of Taoism. Zen is thus a trans-national and trans-cultural philosophy which Bodhidharma transmitted to China from India and later blossomed in Japan. This course offers the distinctive features of this Mahayana Buddhist school from the theoretical perspectives of logic, metaphysics, ethics, and aesthetics.
